Overview
A nice hike starting in Montivilliers to explore the northern part of the region of Le Havre.
A beautiful hike starting from Montivilliers for a discovery of the north of the Le Havre agglomeration
Stage of the famous road of the Abbeys, Montivilliers owes its prosperity and its name to its prestigious abbey of women, an originality among the many rather male Norman abbeys. The ancient "Monasterii Villare" (the monastery village) which gave its name to the town is one of the great monastic foundations of the 7th century in the lower Seine valley. Throughout the Middle Ages, the Abbey of Montivilliers had a great influence. Monastic life ceased in 1792, following the French Revolution. The Abbey then became the seat of the District and of the Popular Society, prison and garrison. In the 19th century, it housed a cotton mill, then a sugar refinery and finally a brewery.
