La Reine Mère
Vallée de la Bresle
This walking trail, in the shade of the trees of the forest of Eu, will definitely offer a treat for the eyes! An ideal path for a breathtaking view over the Yères Valley. Off you go for a one-hour nature walk, a delight for the eyes!
A little bit of history…
At the start of the walk, you will see the stumps of two trees that had been intertwined for more than a century. A beech and an oak planted next to each other for the visit of Queen Victoria in 1843. Intertwined, they symbolized the friendship between France and England. These entwined trees had to be cut down in 2013 for health reasons but their presence can still be felt. For the 100th birthday of the Queen Mother of England, the president at that time, Jacques Chirac, renamed the site "The Queen Mother Elizabeth’s Site".
Now, to the walk…
Head towards the few hills and climbs of the small valley. You will find a flight of stairs designed to make the way down easier. But even though this section is a little bit challenging, it will definitely be a moment of relaxation thanks to the prevailing tranquillity. Through the leaves, on the left, you will start to see views of the Yères Valley. After a few steps, you will have a breathtaking bocage landscape with a stunning view of the valley. Here you are, at the viewpoint indicator! Take time to rest and drink water while enjoying a mind-blowing scenery.
For children as well as grown-ups, you will find along the way two information panels to learn all about the animals of the forest. And to have a real break, there is a picnic table available close to the stand. Stop to have a look at the cast iron mast situated in the middle of the road. Particular features of the Forest of Eu, these signposts are named after illustrious figures of the town and were erected in the forest at the end of the 19th century.
Already the end? You can continue straight on and pick up the Bonne Entente trail to extend this forest experience and go into the heart of the forest. Follow us, you won't be disappointed!
