La Rieuse

Vallée de la Bresle

Overview

This 11 km long walk in the heart of the Bresle Valley offers a combination of nature and heritage. During your walk, you will admire varied landscapes and sites steeped in history!

Before you leave, take time to admire the facade of the château in Rieux, made of bricks and built in the 18th century by the Knight Gaspard Nicolas Brayer de la Motte. But please note, the building is not open to visitors!

Once you have tied your shoe laces, you can start your walk. Off you go for a nature afternoon. This route will start with a path that will take you to the top! You will gently reach a stunning panoramic view over the Bresle Valley. Congratulate yourself for the effort, because this first climb is none other than the ascent of Mont des Rieux!

The rest of the route will take you on a path with less gradient! It is the perfect opportunity to take time to soak in the surrounding scenery. If you look on your left, you will see the Manoir du Cornet (Cornet Manor House).

This charming walk continues in the forest of Eu, one of the biggest forests in Seine-Maritime. Listen carefully and look around, this forest is full of life! It is home to a wide variety of wildlife so walk quietly and look out for deer, hares and even more.

Halfway, you will pass one of the typical signposts of the forest, which look so British! Made of cast iron, they weigh several tons and allow you to find your way through the forest! There are no less than 28 signposts in total to guide walkers.

A few steps further away, you will pick up the "Route Tournante" to reach the site called "Bonne Entente". There, you will see the stumps of two trees that had been intertwined for more than a century. Planted next to each other in 1843 to celebrate and symbolize the friendship between France and Britain, these entwined oak and beech trees unfortunately had to be cut down in 2014, but the site remains imbued with a special atmosphere!

The walk is then about to come to an end. Once out of the forest, between fields and meadows, you will walk back to the starting point!

If you enjoyed this walk and would like to continue exploring the area, we recommend the "Mont Rôti" trail, which also starts from Rieux!
