Description
Frac Normandie has invited Romuald Jandolo to reactivate his installation "Last Dance" on the forecourt of the Frac Normandie in Sotteville-lès-Rouen, to coincide with the exhibition by Roma artist Ceija Stojka. Here he has produced a second, previously unpublished version entitled "Under the thunder".
Romuald Jandolo is a visual artist born in 1988 into a family of circus performers. Having grown up on the move, his work focuses on questions of marginality, identity and popular beliefs.
Under the thunder" is a caravan conceived as a cabinet of curiosities placed in the public space. Visitors are invited to look through its windows and observe fragments of an intimate story.
The staging of the caravan reflects the artist's nomadic childhood, while at the same time questioning the symbolic place of the fairground way of life in modern society, often relegated to the urban fringes in polluted areas or exposed to environmental risks. The work also draws its essence from events following the explosion at the Lubrizol factory in 2019. This accident, which affected the Rouen area, highlighted a painful reality: that of homeless families, too often forgotten among the victims of environmental disasters.
