The André Fontaine park is classified as a Zone Naturelle d'Intérêt Faunistique et Floristique (ZNIEFF) and is a great place to observe the birds of this wetland, including coots, egrets, kingfishers and herons.
The ponds are also ideal for fishing, with whitefish, pike and carp.
Just a stone's throw from the trail is the 17th-century "stone bridge" over the Varenne, linking the commune of Saint-Aubin-le-Cauf with Martigny. It was built along the old trade route from Paris to Dieppe. Note the large sandstone slabs laid on wooden supports, capable of supporting the weight of heavy carts.
