First a Collegiate Church under the protection of the first Countess of Aumale, William the Conqueror’s sister, the abbey reached its heyday during the 12th and 13th centuries. During the French Revolution, the abbey church and numerous buildings were destroyed.
There is only an elegant round brick tower from the early 16th century that remains from the prestigious past of the abbey as well as a long monastic building, which has kept the exterior from its last restoration made by the Reformed Benedictines of the Congregation of Saint-Maur at the beginning of the 17th century.
The site of the abbey church has been located in a place called Auchy since the end of the 10th century, on a terraced site overlooking the left bank of the Bresle Valley.
The current park still covers the former grounds of the abbey. Next to the entrance gate, the ruins of Sainte Clotilde Chapel built in 1815 remind us of the wish of the inhabitants to keep a place of worship here.
