With TENSION(S), the star photographer of the French rap scene reveals the singularity of his style, full of contrasts, and confirms his stature as a contemporary artist.
Fabrice Fournier, alias Fifou, has been working for the French rap scene for 25 years, and has been responsible for the artistic direction of countless record covers. Some of his covers, such as Youssoupha?s Noir D**** (2012), PNL?s Dans la légende (2016), Kekra?s Land (2018) or Alkpote?s Monument (2019) are now famous and have made him an influential figure in the music world. More recently, one of his photographs has also become an Internet meme, giving the French artist worldwide visibility.
It has to be said that the French artist wields the art of the ?punchline? and the uppercut like no one else: beneath an appearance of fidelity to the visual codes of rap, his style is all about daring and side-stepping. Blending portraits and landscapes, digital and film, a quasi-documentary approach to urban cultures and compositions peppered with references to classical painting, architecture and cinema, his style has already earned him several exhibitions.
