As part of the December 17, 2020 inscription of the "art of glass beading" on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity / Unesco
on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity / Unesco,
Mots Perlés, the museum of antique glass beads in Le Tréport, will present its second
starting in June 2025 its second exhibition dedicated to "The art of glass beading in
France in the 19th and 20th centuries". In keeping with the philosophy that drives our museum
project, the only one of its kind in France, aims to preserve, promote and pass on our cultural heritage. It bears witness to a know-how and a memory that time has already partly erased.
The exhibition will feature some fifty "showcase cases" containing samples of glass beads
samples of glass beads made in the 19th and 20th centuries by French companies that have now all disappeared.
Four themes will be explored:
- pearls imitating the natural nacre of pearls produced by oysters.
- barter pearls made by the Manufacture des Emaux de Briare.
- rocailles pearls used to make funerary objects.
- pearls for fashion and Parisian Haute Couture.
The exhibition will be enriched by numerous objects and testimonials: old tools
including a 19th-century enameling table, old photos and documents, and sample cards; a boutique will offer jewelry, postcards and books for sale.
At the exhibition opening in June 2025, we will present our new book, "L?art de la perle de verre en France aux XIXe et XXe siècles", describing the collection.
Free admission.
Open: Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays: 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Saturdays and Sundays: 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m
