Vanity? #1
Stéphanie Aflalo
Created as part of Vive le sujet ! Tentatives at the 78th Avignon Festival, this meditation for three transposes the motif of pictorial vanity to the stage. Black humor, white face, red tablecloth, three skulls placed on the table announce the subject: death. Stéphanie Aflalo continues her cycle of Récréations philosophiques with this satirical little form that plays on the coquetries of language and its veneer of protocol. Surrounded by two acolytes, actor Jérôme Chaudière and performer Grégoire Schaller, the queen of offbeat performance, with her inimitable deadpan tone, looks death in the face with metaphor. Very serious in their posture, but with no spirit of seriousness whatsoever, our three lecturers take the byways of language to embrace the supreme unknown. If life is a funfair, at some point you have to get off the merry-go-round and make way for the newcomers. Laughing together at this inevitability is the least we can do.
