Amala Dianor and Les Arts Florissants
Contemporary dance and early music are a perfect match. British conductor Paul Agnew, a specialist in the Baroque repertoire, and choreographer Amala Dianor, a master at hybridizing styles, join forces in a transdisciplinary project based on the Passion of the Christ, set to music by Neapolitan composer Carlo Gesualdo. On stage, six a capella singers from Les Arts Florissants join forces with four dancers to bring to life the music of this forgotten avant-garde artist of the Italian Renaissance. At the crossroads of classical, contemporary and urban techniques, the choreography, organic and expressive, dialogues in the present with this score from the past, these Répons pour la Semaine Sainte which follow the stages of the Stations of the Cross. And while the dance unfurls its network of fine vibrations in harmony with the spirituality of its subject, the polyphonic writing pays homage to the vocal tessituras present.
