The missing door and The lost room
Peeping Tom
At the helm of Belgian company Peeping Tom, Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier are unrivalled when it comes to setting their choreography in theatrical settings, and their bodies in enigmatic, hushed stage designs, whose realistic detail is commensurate with the strangeness that emanates from them. They have invented a dreamlike universe that is unmistakable, and which is carried by dancers who are committed to their work right down to their hairline. In this diptych, which has the atmosphere of a frightening tale, we enter the rooms of a mysterious apartment whose furnishings seem animated, and whose inhabitants are driven by obscure forces. Movements are sweeping, gestures off-axis and vertical, the atmosphere dark and disquieting. In this cinematic in camera setting, which gradually takes us towards other horizons, doors seem trapped and each place haunted. Between dance, acrobatics, mime and theater, the performers demonstrate fascinating flexibility and virtuosity.
