Medieval chant is known to us through texts, iconography and musical pieces preserved in numerous manuscripts. Valérie Nunes-Le Page introduces us to the famous German Benedictine nun Hildegarde de Bingen (1098-1179) and her music.

The workshop is aimed at all those wishing to discover the repertoire of medieval chant. Beginners are welcome, and learning takes place through imitation and gesture. Amateurs who like to sing a capella and are already familiar with Gregorian chant, and who are curious to discover ancient notation and manuscript reading, are also welcome.

The core of the repertoire will be pieces from the Ordo virtutum collection, a secular musical drama of allegorical morality plays. These will be complemented by monodies and polyphonies by Frenchman Adam de la halle, providing an introduction to medieval poetry.

The workshop will also include two presentations on the Indian tradition of yoganadopasanana.

4 half-days from Thursday June 26 3pm to Saturday June 28 12am
Places limited to 12 participants
Possibility of attending one or more half-days independently
Group accommodation option to be booked as soon as possible
