The museum was founded in 1831 by the Prefect, M. Dupont-Delporte, who wanted to create a “cabinet of antiques" to preserve the remains of monuments and archaeological and art objects, found especially during the excavations of the Gallo-Roman amphitheatre in Lillebonne.
The collections of the museum displays exceptional pieces, from the Antiquity to the Renaissance, coming from the region (glasswork, ceramics, sculptures, etc.) as well as from far away civilisations (ancient Greece and Egypt).
The museum allows visitors to immerse themselves in the heart of those ancient civilisations, to learn more about their daily life and aesthetic principles.
Visitors thus discover statuettes, jewels, objects, and furniture that make up an incredible heritage belonging to the history of mankind.
