Twisted buildings, biscornus tenements, a dark street that runs alongside them, a dreamlike atmosphere, and through the lit windows, silhouettes take shape, pass by and get busy. Inspired by the atmosphere of Hopper?s paintings, the fantastic films of Caro and Genet and the characters in Paul Auster?s books, Magali Esteban imagines intersecting stories in an expressionist, immersive, animated scenography. The set is the pivot between these distant figures, which come to life through shadow, sound and light effects. It is the setting for a neighborhood, a miniature urban model housing a series of picturesque characters in the form of puppets. After Arrivederci and 3 Plumes, Faubourg plays with the visible and the hidden, with our projections through imagination. Between humor and melancholy, he turns us into occasional voyeurs, evening passers-by who turn up their noses to pry into these closed intimacies.
