Opened in September 2015, SHED is an independent venue for contemporary art. Located near Rouen, the venue is special in several ways: owned by a group of artists and curators, the 1400m² building is located in a former candle wick factory. Alongside private workshops and storage facilities, there is an exhibition space (600m²) and a studio (200m²) where artists in residence are welcomed. SHED is emerging in an area where few venues are dedicated to contemporary art, and even fewer to research and experimentation. Its seasonal programming also extends beyond the walls.
