Caesar's Camp, or the "City of Limes", is a Gallic oppidum (port) whose origins date back to Gallo-Roman times. This ancient enclosure was once used for fishing or to escape by sea in the event of an attack. Gallo-Roman finds include a small masonry fanum, washed away by the retreating cliff, and Roman coins. Contrary to popular belief, it was not the Romans who occupied this site, but the Gauls.
