From June 16 to October 10, the Tour des Archives is hosting an exhibition put on by the Archives départementales: "Avec modération! Alcohol throughout history". This presentation invites visitors to explore the past of alcohol in Seine-Maritime through a rich selection of old documents, advertising posters and period photographs.
For centuries, the département has had a complex relationship with alcohol, between local production traditions, commercial development and public health concerns. From artisanal production in monasteries to the establishment of distilleries, the rise of cafés and prevention campaigns, this exhibition traces the many facets of this history.
The Archives départementales have brought together items from the Ancien Régime to the present day, organized around several themes: manufacturing, distribution, cultural practices, major local brands, health issues and awareness-raising policies.
Access: Tour des Archives, quai Jean Moulin entrance, Rouen
Opening hours: Monday to Wednesday, 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
