Éléonore Pancrazi gives voice to the Corsican songs orchestrated by Maurice Ravel, blending tradition, emotion and popular repertoire in a vibrant tribute to her roots.
Éléonore Pancrazi, mezzo-soprano and winner of a Victoire de la musique in 2019, transports us to her native Corsica with this tribute to Maurice Ravel, who orchestrated and harmonized twelve traditional Corsican songs in his youth. This was Ravel?s very first orchestration at the age of 20. To date, these songs have only been recorded once, in 1986. The manuscript of this vocal work can be found in the Musée de la Corse in Corte.
Today, Éléonore Pancrazi takes up this musical folklore with all the passion, drive and depth she is known for, to reveal the dazzling heritage of her childhood. She brings these works into dialogue with other compositions that express a deep attachment to a territory, whatever it may be: an extract from Canteloube?s Chants d?Auvergne, Britten?s Irish Songs... Classical and popular music come together in a powerful journey straight from the heart.
