It’s impossible not to fall under the spell of Veules-les-Roses. Its cobbled streets, half-timbered houses and gardens overflowing with roses and hydrangeas leave you speechless.

Once a fishing and weaving village, it became a haven for legendary artists such as Victor Hugo, who found inspiration for several of his works here. A true concentrate of history and emotion.

Put on your sneakers and set off along the GR® 21 coastal path that winds its way along the Côte d’Albâtre. With every step, the imposing cliffs and sparkling sea on the horizon.

For the adventurous, head for Escamet beach, a little corner of paradise accessible on foot, but beware of the tide! At low tide, the beach at Veules-les-Roses reveals a fine sandy beach, perfect for a family swim or fishing trip.

A gastronomic interlude to whet the appetite

On the seafront, taste the Veulaise, the village’s typical oyster, iodized and fleshy. A delight to be savored to the rhythm of the surf.

The other local star? The Veules cress, grown in the streams fed by the Veules. A real treasure to be discovered at the village market, held every Wednesday.

And if you’re lucky enough to visit in summer, don’t miss the night markets in July and August for a convivial atmosphere under the stars.

A village of art and culture

Veules-les-Roses is also a lively artistic center, where every street corner is packed with workshops, galleries and creations.

Take time to admire the works of local painters, sculptors and artisans. Don’t miss the temporary exhibitions celebrating Normandy’s savoir-faire.

A visit to thechurch of Saint-Martin is a must: this little 16th-century gem conceals a hull vault, 17th-century frescoes and an organ dating from 1628, still used for concerts. A living tribute to Norman craftsmanship and tradition.

"You never tire of this land. Every season transforms the landscapes: autumn light on the thatched cottages or spring in the orchards, it's magical." - Claire, local guide
