High tides
in Seine-Maritime,
 Experience Coeff 114!

A natural spectacle not to be missed

The high tides in Seine-Maritime are the perfect occasion for an invigorating stroll on the beach or a fishing trip with family and friends. Imagine yourself, boots on, basket in hand, ready to explore the treasures unveiled by the receding sea… But before you set off, there are a few conditions to be met before you can take full advantage of this fascinating natural phenomenon in complete safety.

Understanding the phenomenon of high tides

Large tides are mainly due to the attraction of the moon and the sun on the Earth’s marine expanses. In other words, to have a high tidal coefficient (on a scale of 20 to 120), the moon, earth and sun must be aligned. The phenomenon manifests itself at different times on Earth, due to the Earth’s rotation. They are also more or less accentuated according to the respective positions of the moon and sun in relation to the Earth.

 When do high tides occur?

The appointment is made twice a year, at the spring and autumnequinoxes (March and September). Sometimes they also appear in February, April, August or October. To make sure you don’t miss a thing, consult the tide calendar and plan your outing!

Fishing on foot, a true Normandy tradition

When the English Channel retreats, it leaves behind impressive expanses of sandy beaches… A veritable playground for anglers. Under the rocks, in the damp sand or in the hollows of puddles, little periwinkles, shrimps, crabs and cockles are just waiting for you!

A small ecological gesture: remember to put the rocks back in their place to preserve the marine ecosystem.
