The painter likes that typical quarter. The perspective of the buildings and of the cathedral gives the impression that the people are like crushed by them, all the more as the painter has chosen to use little dark paint touches to paint the crowd. Today, if you stand where the painter was painting that canvas, you will also see the “portail de la Calende”, a little square and cafés terraces.
