The Crossbow Watermill and the Château de Bosmelet

Pays de Caux

A walk in the Scie Valley to explore the remarkable local heritage.

Leaving from Saint Pierre Church in Vassonville, you will first follow a section of the GR®210 hiking trail that links Dieppe to Rouen. Also called "Chasse-Marée", this hiking trail is steeped in history!

Less than a kilometre further away, you will cross a small wooden bridge in a bucolic setting. You will then reach the forest after taking the footbridge that overlooks the railway line.

A few steps further away, you will be surrounded by fields! If you are walking in June, you might be lucky to see flax flowers. When flax is in bloom, the Pays de Caux is covered with an astonishing and enchanting blue colour. Indeed, Normandy is the first flax producing region in the world!

You will then pick up a shaded path from which you will be able to see the sumptuous Château de Bosmelet! With its Louis XIII architecture, the building is now a place dedicated to art and culture that exhibits Alain Germain's collection dedicated to performing arts. The chateau's historic rooms and collections can be visited by appointment guided by the owner. It is also possible to visit the park and gardens, listed a Remarkable Garden. Take time to admire the remarkable opening in the middle of the lime tree avenue of Bosmelet. Designed by Colinet, Le Nôtre's head gardener, it is considered as the longest lime tree avenue in Europe. As you continue your walk, you will walk round the property and enjoy a breathtaking view of the other side of the château!

After passing the village of Saint-Denis-sur-Scie, you will reach the GR® 210 hiking trail again to go back to the starting point in Vassonville.
