Maison Vacquerie - Musée Victor Hugo

Quai Victor Hugo, Villequier, 76490 RIVES-EN-SEINE / Vallée de Seine

Accueil Vélo, Maison des Illustres

The Victor Hugo Museum, a former shipowner's house, which belonged to Victor Hugo's family-in-law, keeps alive the memory of this great author and his family and kin.

Visitors enter a former shipowner's house whose descendants made it possible, through eleven donations, to furnish the house to its original condition when it was turned into a museum in 1957. This museum in Villequier has preserved the memorabilia of the trips and stays of the two families Hugo-Vacquerie united by the marriage and then the tragic death of the couple Léopoldine Hugo and Charles Vacquerie. This house, imbued with a particular atmosphere and offering a stunning view of the river Seine from its romantic garden, displays the work of Victor Hugo and that of his admirer and owner of the place Auguste Vacquerie, a playwright, a journalist and partner of the two Hugo sons (Jersey-Guernesey photographic studio, etc.).
Victor Hugo's drawings are not permanently exhibited but only occasionally. At the end of the visit, a permanent and educational presentation of Victor Hugo's work.

The Victor Hugo Museum and House participates in the event Flaubert 2021.
