Front de mer - Belvédère du Pont Rouge D 10 Route de Veulettes 76450 PALUEL / Côte d'Albâtre

Situated on the beach in Paluel, this memorial in tribute to the crew of the B-17 flying fortress that was shot down by the Germans faces the sea.

A Flying Fortress, the B-17 -42-29537 of the 324th Bomb Squadron, 91st Bomb Group, crashed there on 28th March 1943.
Coming back from a mission at the marshalling yard in Sotteville-lès-Rouen, it was shot by a German fighter aircraft and exploded above Bertheauville before falling in the sea one kilometre off the shore of the hamlet called "Port Sucette".
The bomber's logbook, which was found at that time by a nine-year-old child, enabled to pay tribute to the brave aviators 68 years later.
This memorial stone dedicated to this crew is the result of the work carried out by two men: Mr Daniel Lefèvre who spent more than twenty years of his life collecting all the information he could about the event, and Mr Bernard Piednoël, the Mayor of Paluel, who had discovered the logbook.
