As a painter of his time, monet shows his interest in the contrast between two ways of life newly coexisting on the beaches of normandy. The importance of skies reveals the influence of Eugène Boudin, nicknamed the king of skies
by Corot. Today, the beach of Sainte-adresse, also called “le Nice havrais” (The Nice of le Havre) can be the start of a long walk along the sea.
