Vallée de Seine

proposé par l'Office de Tourisme Normandie Caux Vexin

Overview

This digital and literary walk invites you to follow in the footsteps of the famous heroine of Gustave Flaubert's novel, Madame Bovary.

This digital and literary walk invites you to follow in the footsteps of the famous heroine of Gustave Flaubert's novel, Madame Bovary. In Flaubert's description of the fictional village of Yonville-l'Abbaye, where he located the plot of his novel, we can identify the main features of the town with its "long street lined with a few shops". The author is said to have been inspired by a local case to write the plot of this masterpiece of French literature. With the help of imagination, the walk through the village of Ry invites you to a literary reverie and takes you to the places where the characters would have lived: the Bovary's house, Maître Guillaumin's Office, the Homais Pharmacy, etc. Each of the 10 information panels along the way, equipped with QR codes, will tell you about emblematic places of the village and the novel, between fiction and reality. Do not be surprised if you have the impression of seeing Emma on a street! A literary journey you shouldn't miss!
