Le Cap d'Ailly

76119 SAINTE-MARGUERITE-SUR-MER / Côte d'Albâtre

Overview

Sensitive Natural Environments

Overlooking the English Channel, Cap d’Ailly is a unique site along the coastline of Seine-Maritime. This exceptional site is composed of different types of habitats, home to numerous species of animals and plants including heathers and common gorse, creating a little resemblance with Scotland or Brittany.

In 1755, the architects of Louis XV had built a lighthouse 156 metres away from the edge of the cliff. It collapsed in 1964 due to erosion. Two other lighthouses were built after that, the last one is the one now located at Cap d'Ailly.

This site belongs to the Conservatoire du littoral (Coastal protection agency), and is managed by the Department of Seine-Maritime.
