Sensitive Natural Environments
The Cap de la Hève and the Plateau de Dollemard make up an exceptional coastal site. This sensitive natural area is an important natural heritage site, home to some 150 birds species. Form the coastal path, you will take in a breathtaking view over the sea and the typical high cliffs of the Alabaster Coast. When the weather is fine, it is possible to see a part of the Calavdos coastline.
The Cap de la Hève is located 115 m above sea level, hence its strategic role in defending the Seine Estuary and the Port of Le Havre for two centuries. In 1870, during the Franco-Prussian War, ten cannons were set up. Then in 1894, three coastal batteries were built in order to protect the city from possible attacks by England. During World War II, the German army built blockhouses around the batteries. The site was acquired by the Conservatoire du littoral (Coastal protection agency) in 1991 in order to preserve and develop this nature site.
This site belongs to the Conservatoire du littoral (Coastal protection agency), and is managed by the Department of Seine-Maritime.
