Berneval-le-Grand Valley

On the edge of Saint-Martin-en-Campagne, the dry-hanging valley of Berneval-le-Grand leads to a sand and pebble beach enjoyed by beachgoers, shellfish pickers and walker. You reach the sea via an easily accessible footpath.

At the top of the cliffs, the meadows are home to several species of wild orchids. The coastal area around the dry-hanging valley is a Natura 2000 protected site. On the beach, you can see streams of water flowing on the sand and the pebbles to the sea.
The dry-hanging valley is also a witness to history. In August 1942, during au Operation Jubilee, an Anglo-Canadian soldier landed there with the mission to seize a German battery located at the top of the cliff. At the top of the dry-hanging valley, opposite the footpath, a monument and a small chapel remind us of this event and pay tribute to the victims.
