La Côte du Roule

76160 SAINT-LEGER-DU-BOURG-DENIS / Vallée de Seine

This south-facing sensitive natural area offers a stunning panoramic view over the Aubette Valley. It is mostly composed of calcareous grassland planted with a wide range of orchids and home to numerous butterflies.
The Côte du Roule (Roule Hillside) has been used for sheep grazing until the early 20th century thus contributing to the development of a rich and varied fauna and flora. The site was abandoned when sheep grazing stopped. Nowadays, there are measures that aim to preserve and restore the site in order to maintain it and protect the species that live there.
This site belongs to the towns of Saint-Léger-du-Bourg-Denis and Darnétal, as well as private owners and is managed by the Department of Seine-Maritime.
