Rouen, ville d'art et d'histoire
Service du Patrimoine 186, rue de Martainville 76000 Rouen / Vallée de Seine
Label Town of Art and History since 2002.
Rouen is located on the Seine River between the river and the sea waters and its growth is closely linked with the arbour.
Besides trade, Rouen had also an important religious and political role. Many buildings are there to remind us of that past : the Cathedrale, The Saint-Ouen Abbey Church, the Courthouse.
The town has kept two precious buildings of the 16th century : The Aître Saint-Maclou and the Gros-Horloge.
During the classical period, mansions have been built and the destruction of the ramparts integrates the faubourg into the town.
