Parc municipal du Château de la Marquise

Rue Turgis 76350 OISSEL / Vallée de Seine

Located in the Seine Valley, in the town of Oissel, the park of the Château de la Marquise combines botanical interest and architectural beauty. Designed in 1955 in the park of the Chateau de la Marquise de Frondeville, this French-style garden will seduce both nature lovers as well as children thanks to its playground. The park is also the starting point of hiking trails, especially via the towpath that stretches along the banks of the river Seine

Our visit of the park started even before we entered. Surrounded by a wall, the property cannot be seen from outside, which arose our curiosity. We arrived by car and parked in a charming little car park adjoining the impressive manor house. Who has never dreamed of living the life of Riley? As architectural heritage lovers, we discovered a majestic Louis XVI pavilion, which seems to overlook the park below. We noticed a statue opposite the building, we were immediately intrigued. It depicts a young woman; could it be the famous Marchioness who founded the park? No one knows, which adds even more mystery to this woman who looks pensive...

Off we went to explore the park! A cheerful and welcoming atmosphere pervades the place. In the distance, we could hear the sound of children laughing and playing in the playground, we saw visitors sitting in the grass to read or have a picnic. As we wandered around, we explored an arboretum that gave pride of place to regional species. We actually spotted the famous sessile oak, called Rouvre oak in French, which gave its name to the Forest of Rouvray! Along the path surrounded by trees, we enjoyed the chirping of the birds and the soft light of the sun that pierced through the leaves...

In this green and peaceful environment, we took time to admire the features of the landscape and its splendid colours. The architecture around us took us back in time. Away from modern civilisation, we admired the buildings that made this visit surprising and provided a change of scene. The smallest details in this park made our experience unique. We could find all the features associated to nobility. The Park of the Château de la Marquise definitely deserves its name! When we stood at the foot of the chateau, we looked up towards this grand building, enhanced by the colourful flower beds.

We took time to sit down on the benches in the shade of the trees for a snack before the children ran to the playground. What a nice afternoon!
