La Ferme Raimbourg

1 rue Placide Alexandre 76690 MONT-CAUVAIRE

Patrimoine rural de la Seine-Maritime

In the Seine Valley, north of Rouen near the town of Montville, the Raimbourg Farm has obtained the "Rural Heritage" label for its double bread oven. This farm has preserved its typical 19th century rural architecture and its visit is a kind of return to paradise, a stone's throw from Rouen in a true Norman land which is at the transition of the beech forests of the Pays de Caux and the forests of the Pays de Bray, in the middle of the Cailly valley.

Our neighbor Martine, who is retired like us, often tells us about the story of the double bread oven of the Raimbourg Farm where her mother used to bake pastries when she was a child. As it is the summer vacations and our two little children are here for a few weeks, we decide to go for a walk with Martine, who is also a good walker, on these beautiful sunny days.
We arrived in the village of Mont-Cauvaire where, near the church, we found the entrance to the farm. We leave the car on the parking lot in front of the stables which are used as communal lodgings.
"It's great!" shout our grandchildren as soon as they get out. Indeed, the places preserved all their freshness of the past and we are in the heart of a farm "clos masure" characteristic of the Country of Caux with its wood sides filled with cob and the famous thatched roofs. It is of an exceptional charm.
Everything is spread out in space, from the farmhouse to the outbuildings, isolated from each other for fire safety because of the fire in the ovens. In front of the two big clods of earth, Martine is all moved: "Here is the famous double oven where my mother used to come! The originality of this oven is that it is double with a large oven for bread and a small oven for pastries.
The greenery and the sun give the place a paradisiacal image of happiness with the cries of the children who play around the stone press and its big wheel. With Martine we admire the pond and its romantic weeping willow.

Then, Jacques my husband gathers everyone in the big alley. He prepared the backpacks for our hike. We go to Fontaine-le-Bourg to join the Bois de Fécamp where an educational trail has been set up by the Seine-Maritime Department to discover the biodiversity of the forest and the botany of the trees. The children are enthusiastic about the idea of making new discoveries. On our side, we are delighted to create beautiful memories for them to share with their families.
