Château de Bosmelet et la collection Alain Germain

Besides the park and garden with its three-hundred-year-old lime tree avenue, Bosmelet also offers an unexpected visit of a 17th century manor house, home to Alain Germain’s sumptuous collection of paintings, costume designs, opera props, stage backdrops, etc.

Built on the foundations of a former castle, Bosmelet was the house of the Duc de la Force, governor of Normandy and Louis XV's private tutor. In the park, you will see an 18th century chapel, a 16th century orangery, a flower garden, remarkable trees including three-hundred year old lime trees, and traces of World War II, excavated in the past few years for visitors.

Inside the château, have a look at the collection of stage decor, costume designs and painted backdrops made by the opera director Alain Germain, who has owned the site since 2016. Temporary exhibitions and numerous events (classical music concerts, lectures, storytelling tours, etc.) are organised in summer in the chapel and the park. Since 2019, the site has been paying tribute to Michel Hollard, "the man who saved London" by finding V1 launch pads in the region and in the park. The enclosed garden dedicated to Michel Hollard tells the story of this iconic member of the French Resistance movement and displays pictures of the destructions of the chateau during World War II.
